Progress S.r.l. was founded in 1996, introducing dynamic olfactometry to Italy for the first time — a method that would quickly become the gold standard for determining odour concentration in gaseous samples. What began with monitoring odorous emissions from composting plants in Lombardy has grown into Italy’s most important olfactometric laboratory and one of the largest in Europe.
The range of services expanded rapidly over the years, introducing new test methods and continuously improving established ones. Environmental consulting and atmospheric modelling were added alongside the monitoring activities, making Progress S.r.l. a complete one-stop partner for all odour-related environmental needs.
Since its founding, Progress S.r.l. has maintained a close scientific collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “Giulio Natta” at Politecnico di Milano — one of Italy’s most prestigious research institutions. This partnership drives the continuous development of new sampling methods, testing procedures, and environmental impact assessment tools, ensuring our work always reflects the latest advances in the field.
More recently, a dedicated logistics branch has been established in Merone to support and optimize operational activities across a broader environmental scope. This structure enables more efficient management of services related not only to atmospheric emissions, but also to water, workplace environments and waste, strengthening the company’s capability to operate across multiple environmental matrices.

Progress S.r.l. actively participates in the development of European and Italian technical standards — as a member of CEN TC264 Working Groups for the revision of EN 13725 and for instrumental odour monitoring, as well as UNI Environment Commission Working Groups for air quality and environmental impact.
