How does Environmental Monitoring Work?
Progress S.r.l. carries out environmental monitoring for the determination of chemical parameters in atmospheric emissions, diffuse emissions, and workplace environments — also using qualified external testing laboratories where required. All sampling operations are carried out and coordinated by our own personnel, giving clients a single point of contact for all monitoring needs.
Measurements cover the full range of parameters required by Italian national legislation, as well as specific compounds frequently responsible for olfactory nuisance.
- Nitrogen oxides (NOₓ)
- Sulphur oxides (SOₓ)
- Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
- Particulate matter (TSP, PM10, PM2.5)
- Hydrogen sulphide (H₂S)
- Ammonia (NH₃)
- Mercaptans & organic acids
- Aromatic organic compounds
What does Environmental Monitoring Cover?
UNDERSTANDING THE SERVICE
Environmental monitoring encompasses the measurement of pollutants in atmospheric emissions — both channelled (e.g., chimneys and exhaust stacks) and diffuse (e.g., open storage, fugitive emissions from landfills or industrial facilities). It also includes ambient air quality assessments and baseline surveys carried out before a facility begins operations (ante-operam).
Physical parameters of channelled emissions are also measured — including temperature, relative humidity, volumetric flow rate, and pressure drops. Where needed, Progress S.r.l. deploys a fully equipped mobile laboratory for on-site ambient air measurements.
Benefits of Chemical Monitoring
Full Regulatory Coverage
All measurements are carried out in accordance with Italian national legislation on atmospheric emissions, diffuse sources, and workplace environments.
Single Supplier
All sampling is coordinated directly by Progress S.r.l. personnel — eliminating the complexity of managing multiple contractors for different monitoring needs.
Odour-Linked Analysis
We specifically target compounds known to cause olfactory nuisance — H₂S, NH₃, mercaptans, amines, and aromatic organics — bridging the gap between chemistry and smell.
Water & Solid Matrices
Beyond air, we also monitor water quality parameters and solid matrices — including waste characterisation and compost quality analysis at treatment plants.
Frequently
Asked Questions
Questions we often asked
What types of emissions can you monitor?
We monitor channelled atmospheric emissions (chimneys, exhaust stacks), diffuse and fugitive emissions (open storage, landfills, industrial facilities), ambient air quality, and workplace environments — covering the full range required by Italian environmental legislation.
Which pollutants do you measure?
We measure all parameters required by national law — including NOₓ, SOₓ, O₂, VOCs, and particulate matter (TSP, PM10, PM2.5) — as well as compounds specifically linked to olfactory nuisance: H₂S, NH₃, amines, mercaptans, organic acids, and aromatic compounds.
Do you also monitor water and solid waste?
Yes. Progress S.r.l. carries out monitoring of water quality parameters (surface water, groundwater, discharge to ground and sewers) and solid matrices — including waste characterisation and compost, RDF, and SRF quality analysis.
Can you deploy on-site for ambient air measurements?
Yes. Ambient air measurements can be carried out using our fully equipped mobile laboratory, deployed directly at the facility or at receptor locations in the surrounding area.
Who coordinates the sampling?
All sampling operations are carried out and/or coordinated by Progress S.r.l. personnel — ensuring consistency, quality, and a single point of contact throughout the monitoring campaign.
